My photographs strive to capture the contrast of man-made decay entwined with eternal natural splendor. I’m drawn to creating an evocative atmosphere and seeking out New England’s hidden, sometimes least explored locations to see what nature is up to. I am constantly inspired by my native Vermont. Despite living here most of my life, I'm struck by its mysteries, its simplicities and how even the most abandoned of places reveal secrets and beauty. Having learned the basics of photography from my father at a young age, I credit our lessons for honing my craft and credit my father for fostering within me a deep-rooted passion for this artform. He taught me patience and how to appreciate stillness–both critical skills for a photographer. We wait for “that moment” and then instinctively click the shutter. Photography allows me to freeze time and that particular moment in the world. It’s like I’m holding a piece of eternity in my hands. Capturing ephemera… just before it slips away into memory’s river. I hope my images conjure memories for you or inspire you to spend more time in nature. I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts.

I use opaque acrylic paints on wooden canvas boards, layering them to create vibrant, bold colors with clean lines and crisp details. The smooth surface of the wood allows me to build up textures and shapes, contrasting the paint’s matte finish with the natural grain of the board. This combination brings depth and a tactile quality to my work, making each piece unique. I’ve explored various art forms throughout my life, including painting, drawing, sewing, sculpting, woodcarving, photography, and videography. I hold an Associate’s degree in Studio Art from Arapahoe Community College. I have been featured in a couple of local exhibits in the past, and I have a permanent installation located at the Children's Hospital in Broomfield. As an acrylic painter specializing in stylized vector art, I am captivated by the delicate nuances of human expression and the profound narratives they convey. Inspired by the works of artists like Will Martyr, Vladimir Volegov, and Damian Lechoszest, I seek to explore the intersection of form, color, and emotion. My work focuses on the subtleties of facial expressions and gestures, using them as a visual language to tell stories that resonate on a deeply personal level. Light plays a pivotal role in my art, serving as both a medium and a metaphor. I am fascinated by its transformative power—the way it illuminates, defines, and enhances the human form, revealing an inner beauty that transcends the physical. Through bold, vibrant colors and dynamic compositions, I aim to capture moments of introspection and connection, creating pieces that invite viewers to see beyond the surface and experience the depth of the emotions portrayed.

Raised in the “Rust Belt,” my work often reflects the grit and tenacity of that environment. There is beauty in the decay, rust, and detritus of modern materials. By mining a wealth of discarded photos, old newsprint, books stripped of their covers, etc., I seek to repurpose them in my collage and mixed-media paintings. I aim to inspire those who see my work as a symbol of creating new worlds from old ideas. Sharon M. Dundee received her BFA from Youngstown State University (YSU), where she pursued two divergent paths – painting/art history and graphic design/desktop publishing – the latter becoming her main career focus for more than 30 years. Additionally, she brought her experience and inspiration to students at YSU as part of the adjunct faculty in design and typography. Specializing in abstract-expressionist analogue collage and mixed media painting, she has exhibited her work nationally in the U.S. Dundee lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio.

My photography is a reflection of movement — across landscapes, cultures, and inner states of mind. I’m drawn to the edges of the world: wind-swept peaks, desert silence, and the pulse of the jungle. What compels me isn’t just beauty, but the effort it takes to reach it. Every photo is a story — of waking at 3am to climb a mountain, cycling through sandstorms at high altitude, or stepping into the unknown with camera in hand. Through these images, I want to share what it feels like to stand small before something vast. Photography, for me, is a way to preserve those fleeting moments of awe and translate them into something lasting. As I continue to explore new regions, my work remains rooted in one belief: the more we see this planet, the more we might care for it.
