Linda Pearlman Karlsberg
Short Biography and Statement
Portraits afford an opportunity to paint or draw light and intriguing form, and explore varied emotive qualities. In pursuing a strong and captivating countenance I push the form, values and expression. Each work scrutinizes what the face portrays, and the person conveys. In portraying individuals at different ages and life stages I also engage themes of temporal change, individual vulnerability and human mortality. I reflect moments of inquisitiveness, strength, calm or vulnerability; traces of self-protection and openness; or glimmers of hopefulness, pride and earnestness emerge. As I preserve a time and moment in the subject’s evolution, I acknowledge the tumultuous forces and inevitable unstoppable sea of change we ride in life. In "Watching" I was confronting this child’s ambivalent and cautious gaze. “Granite and Mist” engages with both the strength and vulnerability palpable in this young man. These drawings marvel at the magic of a moment and honor the purest of encounters with some of the special little humans in my life. The difficult and satisfying challenge in my portraiture is to portray some unarmed truth and in so doing to suggest our complex humanity and shared experience. Linda earned both BFA and MFAs magna cum laude at BU, was a teaching assistant while an undergraduate and graduate student. After earning her MFA, Linda continued to teach drawing, design, and painting at Boston University, The Art Institute, and other Boston area colleges. Linda has shown her work extensively at museums and galleries throughout the United States. The recipient of numerous awards for her drawings and paintings, Linda’s work has been featured in art periodicals, written about in blogs and newspapers, and shared in numerous catalogs. Her work is in public and private collections throughout the United States.

Michele Bourdeau
Short Biography and Statement
Michele Bourdeau has always been fascinated by the three-dimensional form and the possibility to create limitless compositions out of raw material. She likes the texture of clay and enjoys feeling a form take shape under her fingers. She gets inspired from a variety of sources and tends to prefer stylized, abstracted figures and forms. Apart from representing the figure, the artist is much inspired by the wildness of nature and un-tameness of the ocean in creating abstract forms. Her art pieces do not result from careful planning. She tries to experiment with something new each time. The artist lets the idea evolve as she works along and likes to leave the creation speak for itself. Her work has been recognized in a number of juried shows and has sold to private collections.

There are so many wonderful animals in the world. Some are jovial and funny; some are shy and reserved. It is amazing to watch them interact with each other and observe how much like humans they are. They show a variety of personalities and emotions. Spending the time to get to know them and see their individuality is very rewarding. I hope more people can find a deeper understanding and affection for them. If we spent more effort helping to save them and their environments, what a better world it would be.
