Short Biography and Statement

www.contemporaryopart.com

I have been fascinated with the Op Art Movement ever since I bought a Vasarely poster at a psychedelic shop as a ten-year-old in the late 1960s. I am exploring the many ways to create captivating imagery in the Op Art genre. I find great joy in exploring the interaction of color, how colors can impart the impression of motion and depth, and how colors can evoke unique memories in each of us. My work relies on complex arrangements of shape and line, and the choice of precise colors that create structures, flickering, glowing, or a sense of perspective. I also enjoy the role that mathematics plays in my work, and the process of layer upon layer of colors that are applied using varying widths of masking tape to create the final result -- which is something that I can't see until the last piece of tape is removed. I have been primarily influenced by the Op Artists of the 1960s and 1970s -- especially Julian Stanczak and Richard Anuszkiewicz, as well as Bauhaus artist Josef Albers.

Chuck Fischer

Short Biography and Statement

www.chuckfischerstudio.com

Artist Statement - My geometric abstract constructions break the plane of two-dimensional painting and are composed of colored, textured, and multi-layered elements made from common materials such as wood, copper, and aluminum. I create their visual complexity by varying the depth, color, and texture of each piece to draw the viewer into the work. I never sketch before I start a new piece but trust my intuition and the materials at hand to guide me as I create works of spatial balance and harmony. Bio - Prior to 2016, when Fischer exclusively committed to his fine art practice, his 9th pop-up book was published. His published works include the bestsellers, Christmas in New York, (Little, Brown & Co). and Great American Houses and Gardens (Rizzoli/Universe). His designs are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum and Museum of American History, and the Artist Book section at the Library of Congress. Fischer’s work was recently featured in the literary and fine art magazine, Woven Tale Press.

Eric M Renard (www.ericrenardphotography.com) is a Los Angeles based fine art photographer and creative director. Eric’s passion for photography was ignited at Tufts University in Boston, where he studied under Siegfried Halus. After graduating, Eric moved to San Francisco and worked as an architectural photographer before moving to Los Angeles. Eric’s unique exposure to both urban and rural life can be seen throughout his work, as he is equally at home in both settings. Usually working in black and white, his urban cityscapes and rural landscapes often reflect an eerie sense of peace and quiet, rarely portraying more than one or two people. Eric’s photography has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and Europe, receiving numerous awards. His work has been published in both books and photography magazines. He is also on the board of directors for several non-profit art organizations.
