The Artist Space Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the first Still Life Art Exhibition. Along with the selected artists, the jury selected award winners in the following art categories: painting, photography, and sculpture. The show displayed a variety of artistic styles and mediums: oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, gouache, ink tint, photography, digital, porcelain, bronze. Out of all submissions received 40 artworks were selected to be included in the exhibition.

ABSTRACTION is a language that speaks to me. I love languages, and every form of art represents a vehicle of communication. Abstract expressionism reaches deep into the unconscious allowing paint, color, shapes, patterns, textures, and mixed media to take on forms and thoughts within our imagination. I am fascinated by the capacity of paint to configure into shapes, reminding us of organic, microscopic, molecular formations. Everything we see is made up of tiny atoms or particles, and when combined with other particles becomes a "something." Thoughts also are energy. I am involved with the idea of how a thought is formed, joining with another thought, then another. often, My Imagery symbolizes the thought process, which then becomes our story or belief system.

John Manno (b. 1951) attended Boston University studying film and photography, graduating in 1973 with a BA degree. After graduating, he moved to New York City where he assisted several commercial photographers before embarking on his own career in 1977. For four decades, working from his studio in the Flatiron District, John’s work for high profile clients has been seen in some of the world’s most prestigious publications. STATEMENT: As a photographer, I am captivated by the unique juxtapositions of elements I discover in the world around me. Whether found organically in the real world or carefully constructed in the studio, these unexpected visual relationships are the foundation of my artistic practice. Through my lens, I seek to highlight the extraordinary within the ordinary - the hidden harmonies, stark contrasts, and serendipitous collisions that so often go unnoticed in our day-to-day lives. By isolating and framing these fleeting moments, I aim to transform the mundane into the extraordinary, inviting viewers to see the familiar in unfamiliar ways. My photographic process involves a combination of patient observation and intentional arrangement. I might stumble upon an intriguing juxtaposition while out exploring my surroundings, or I might meticulously construct a scene in the studio, playing with the placement of forms, textures, and lighting to create a visually compelling composition. Ultimately, my work is driven by a fascination with the poetry of the physical world - the subtle yet powerful ways in which disparate elements can interact to create new meanings and inspire fresh perspectives. Through my photographs, I hope to guide viewers toward a deeper appreciation of the visual richness that pervades our everyday experience.
